Leadership - The Core Tactics

Leaders will learn to ignite and sustain passion in their workforce; identify and standardize behaviors that generate results; measure the right things to track performance; use accountability tools to align their goals and values; create and develop the next generation of leaders.

Objectives:  Leaders will learn to –

  • Align messages and actions
  • Understand the importance of measurement
  • Write SMART goals
  • Know the difference between goals and tactics
  • Build a culture of accountability
  • Understand the phases of change
  • Address organizational tough questions

Pre-LDI Assignment:   Be prepared to discuss the following from Session One –

  • A ‘win’ identified as a result of connecting with your team/staff
  • Identify barriers that prevent you from connecting with your staff effectively
  • How you are managing up your team, leader and /or organization
  • Results from a High Middle Low Performer Conversation
  • Bring a copy of your current annual performance evaluation tool
  • Bring a copy of your customer satisfaction results if you measure/track them

Table Discussions – 30 minutes (10 each topic)

  1. Discuss a ‘win’ identified as a result of connecting with staff, something that you would not have likely learned without the connection
  2. What impact did this have on the employee? The organization? On you?
  3. Identify any barriers to your ability to connect with staff
  4. How can you overcome these barriers?
  5. How does this ‘win’ position you as a leader with your team?
  6. Share an example of how you have managed up a staff member, a leader or your organization
  7. What was the reaction/response of the person to whom you were having the conversation with?
  8. What type of impression does managing up leave with your employees and customers?
  9. Discuss a HML conversation you conducted over the last 90 days.
  10. How did the employee respond?  Did you effectively re-recruit the high and middle performer? 
  11. If a low performer, did you clarify expectations and did the individual change behaviors or move on?
